Foils, flakes and fabulous new glitters

Writer: Nails by Laura D LeeNails by Laura D Lee

I haven't added to the Shelves of Selection in a while, so I got a bit spend-happy in the Black Friday sales recently. Now that they've all arrived & I've had a chance to have a play, I thought I'd share the haul of nail art goodies that are now available at NbLDL.

First up are the Lecenté glitters, of which there are 5 new additions - 3 holographic multi glitz and 2 iridescent. If you're still not sure on the differences between varying types of glitter, check out this blog post for a full explanation & a load of sparkly snaps!

Lecenté have just released their 2021 'Holiday Spirit collection' so of course I had to try Brass & Pewter, two new metallic glitters with a holographic undertone, in a chunky multi glitz cut. I also added Sugar Plum from 2020's 'Cosy Knits' collection - still not sure how I this one escaped me last year, but it's firmly in my possession now - a gorgeous royal purple in a micro fine cut.

I'm also continuing my love affair with iridescent glitters, so i popped a couple more into the basket. Meringue is a 'white' glitter with golden tones; it shows warm elements of deep orange and green over dark colours, whilst over lighter shades it will pick up pale pink, lilac and blue. Chameleon had a brown undertone that I felt the Shelves were missing - and it will look fab as a base for Rudolph!

Then I snuck in the Bright Pink Waves foil from the 2021 Autumn collection - this does exactly what it says on the tin -

a bright pink foil with waves of holo! I can't wait to see a set of full coverage of this beauty.

Finally, the newly released Pure White Powder was an absolute must. Previously, any white ombré had to be created using the white nail art pigment powder, which had a shimmery effect that not everyone was a fan of. This new powder will enable me to create beautiful baby boomer nails, entirely shimmer-free!

Now you'd think that there would be enough in that Lecenté order to keep me going for a while, but I couldn't resist a placing a cheeky Magpie order too! You can read more about both of these brands, and why I love them so much, right here.

I'd been eying up the Magpie glitter flakes for some time, so I took the plunge and ordered a variety for the Shelves. These are so versatile as they can be applied as flakes themselves, ie small uneven pieces of glitter rather than super fine, uniform particles, or they can be burnished into gel polish for a chrome-like effect... and not to be dramatic or anything but I think I'm in love. So without further ado, please welcome the following to the NbLDL nail art collection:

Starla - she is a seriously stunning holographic silver. Applied as full coverage she's an absolute knockout, but I also love her dabbed over black gel polish - perfect nails for NYE.

Venus - a holographic iridescent flake with tones of pink, gold and green, I just cannot stop staring at this beauty. I tried it under a matte top coat, which is an experiment I don't think I'll be repeating, but I love it with the high-shine top coat.

Lexi - another holographic iridescent flake, this time with tones of pink, purple and blue. I have been searching for a way to replicate my favourite (regular) nail polish of all time {Barry M Fashion Icon } and I think Lexi is going to nail it!

Annabelle - an iridescent dust from the 'Adora-belle' collection, with both turquoise and pink elements; she looks particularly beautiful over a nude base for a subtle but no less stunning result.

Maple - part of the 'Fall in Love' collection, Maple is a gorgeous chameleon dust, meaning she changes from deep orange to a rich pink depending on the light. In some instances she also seems to have an almost green sheen to her too.

The flakes are amazing and to be honest, I would've been more than happy with just them. But to complete my order, I found an absolute game-changer - enter Eclipse, a silver light-reflecting fine glitter. Just look at the difference with and without flash!

So there you have it, a shedload of new nail art options for your upcoming appointments - which one are you most excited to try out? Let me know in the comments below x
